What is a safety cover?
A safety cover creates a secure taut material barrier over a swimming pool. Meyco Safety covers come in a variety of colors (green, blue, black and Gray) and grades of material MeycoLite (standard grade polypropylene mesh), Rugged-Mesh (Special Weave, rugged grade polypropylene mesh), PermaGuard-Lite (Hi-tech , lightweight vinyl). They are oftentimes, custom-made to the shape of an inground pool, and secured through a series of sewn straps with attached buckled springs, which in turn, secure under tension to threaded or pop-up styled brass anchors set in the pool deck. (I would like to have photos of the material displayed)
Are safety covers only used for safety?
No. Many pool owners purchase their safety covers to use as their primary winter cover. The safety cover provides a barrier to keep out winter debris and snow while lasting many years longer than the traditional tarpaulin winter cover.
Are the brass anchors set in the deck obtrusive, or... Will I stub my toes on the brass anchors?!?
All deck anchors set flush into the deck when not in use. The threaded or pop-up inserts easily secure back into the anchor with the special Allen key provided with each cover.
Is it easy to remove and store the cover?
Typical stock sized safety covers go on and remove in about 15 to 20 minutes after initial installation using the provided tensioning tool. Each cover comes with a mesh drawstring storage bag. A mesh safety cover is fan folded to a size small enough to fit in the storage bag. The bag is then hung or stood upright in a dry secure place until ready for use in the Fall.
Can you make a cover to fit special features (Spa,
waterfall, deck, etc.)?
Meyco is best known for it highly innovative design techniques. Aside
from making covers longer than any other manufacturer, what really
sets us apart
is our unmatched design capabilities and being the "go to" company for
complex jobs. So the short answer is, No Problem! Mostly any size
or shape can
be made.
Mesh vs. solid: Which is best?
The answer to this question will depend on your pool use and your pool
needs. Meyco carries several types of safety covers. A typical mesh will
allow water through it as well as sunlight. Without proper water chemistry
and maintenance,
you will certainly have dirtier water when opening your pool compared
to if you had a typical solid cover. A typical solid cover will block
out all the
sunlight and keep finer debris out of your pool but they cost more, are
heavier and can even accumulate dirty water or debris on top of the cover
as well.
Meyco has narrowed the spectrum a bit and tried to make it easier to
find a material that best suits a pool owner's needs by introducing the
Rugged-Mesh
and Permaguard-Lite covers. Meyco¹s flagship Meycolite Mesh is the standard, lightweight mesh material that has become the industry standard. Permaguard-Lite is a lightweight solid cover that has all the benefits of the typical solid cover except, due to its lighter weight, the cover drains significantly better (if the drain model is chosen) and is much easier to handle, making it an easier choice if a solid cover is what you are looking for. Rugged-Mesh can almost be thought of as something in the middle. It has the properties of a mesh cover, which will be lighter weight and allow water to drain through, but it is also similar to the solid as it blocks out sunlight and finer debris. Your Pool Will Open Cleaner with a Rugged-Mesh, and depending on conditions, just as clean as if it were solid. It¹s
also a more durable mesh if you should have a need for something to hold
up to a windy or rougher area.
What are the warranties offered?
All covers are now warrantied for 12 years.

What is the difference between a regular cover and a safety cover?
By definition, Safety Covers are made to meet ATSM standard F-1346. In
simple terms, a small child should not be able to get access into the
pool once
a Safety Cover is properly installed. Also, if a child is on top of the
cover, there should be a minimum amount of water at all times to reduce/eliminate
the risk of a child drowning on top of it. Finally, the cover must sustain
a minimum amount of weight equal to 2 adults and a child so a rescue
can be performed without the cover failing. A regular "tarp-like" cover
obviously does not have to meet any criteria but more importantly, a
regular cover
can be more of a hazard than no cover at all (See the video demonstrating
how this is the case.). Although all Meyco brand covers have been tested
and Classified by UL, Meyco sets its own safety standards, which far
exceeds those of the ASTM.
What is the difference between Meyco covers and other types of safety covers?
The short answer is superior materials, expertise and company focus. If you want the longer explanation, just read on:
To begin with, Meyco is a safety cover manufacturer with one primary focus:
to make safety covers. We are not a great marketing company, we are not
a pool liner company and we do not make pool walls and use covers as a "great spot to fill in production". We have always taken the safety aspect seriously and scrutinize a pool cover like no one else. You will not see a misleading ad from Meyco that involves putting animals or automobiles on our cover unless it really happened. What you see is what you get with Meyco and now, here is a list of what you will see. Key components in a cover are Webbing, Material, Thread, Hardware and expertise. Our webbing (criss-crosses the cover and becomes straps) has been engineered to be light weight, pliable and extremely strong (About 33% stronger than industry standards). This allows your cover to have flexible straps for years to come compared to stiff, unmanageable straps after a few short years. In addition, the cover itself becomes lighter in weight and bulk not to mention the superior strength. Although MeycoLite Mesh material has become an industry standard for mesh covers, Permaguard-Lite has not. Compared to typical solid covers or copolymer solid covers, chemistry is what makes this material superior. The vinyl part of the material is chemically bonded vs. a mechanical bond. In simple terms, this means our PermaGuard-lite Material is "morphed" with the structure of the material (scrim) compared to being "pressed" on
to it. This makes a superior adhesion that will give the cover longer life.
Our hardware is all US made. Highest Grade Stainless steel and solid brass
anchors. Hardware coming from overseas, although less expensive, is less
reliable. The most overlooked but just as important is the lightest most
subtle part
of the cover; our thread. Superior in many ways, the thread literally holds
it all together. White, polyester bonded, marine grade thread will not
only last longer and is stronger but since all our covers are hand crafted,
the
contrasting color provides another way for us to catch missing stitches.
Finally, the expertise. We invented the cover and have been doing this
since 1957. We
have come across every type of pool and environment and pool covers is
all we focus on. The amount of straps, the layout, type of material required,
installation considerations and even how the cover will perform in 5 and
10 years from when
it is first installed, is all we think about. We told you it was a long
explanation.
How do I know I received a Meyco Cover?
Meyco has all of its anchors marked with the Meyco name and in addition, sews special webbing on the bottom side of the cover with the Meyco Name. Any labels on the cover will also have the Meyco name on it.
Why does water have to be taken off of the Pool Cover?
Standing water on a cover is a hazard. Not only can it become unsightly
and contaminated but a child can drown in only 4" of water. ASTM standards
have minimum water levels allowed on a safety cover. See Video
What level should the water level be at when closing the pool?
The water level should be 15"-18" or less from the top of the deck.
Can I buy direct?
We do not sell direct. This is mainly because a safety cover should be properly installed in order for it to be considered a safety cover. A pool professional should also be able to properly measure and propose the best alternative for your needs.
Can I get a cheaper cover, why should I pay more for it?
Meyco will not claim to be the "Cheapest or least expensive" but we will
argue that a Meyco cover offers the most value dollar for dollar. Our
customer service is second to none and we stand behind our product in
a way that
no on else would even consider.
How did this cover get invented?
The safety cover will be 50 years or in 2007. Meyco invented both the
safety cover and its "disappearing anchor" in 1957. Please see 1957 on
the Meyco Time line for further explanation.
How are they made?
First the cover is designed using proprietary software called MeycoDex. This helps optimize the safety, aesthetics and installation requirements for any given poolscape. Once a comprehensive design is complete the cover then becomes a handcrafted piece of work where each strap, stitch, tip, buckle, etc are put into attached by hand. The covers pass through several quality control stations as its being constructed and a final process before being boxed up and shipped.
What does it mean to be UL Classified ?
Since our covers are sold to large aquatic facilities and public parks throughout the world, officials like be assured that a cover will meet the ATSM standards. UL has put several of our custom covers to the test to see if they in fact met the ASTM standards on the field. Each of our manufacturing facilities are visited quarterly to see if any of our specifications have been changed. MeycoLite, Rugged-Mesh and Permaguard-Lite have all been classified by UL individually.
How do I order one?
You can fill out your name and address here and we will send you information on an authorized dealer in your area. They will come by and measure your pool, give you a quote and eventually install the cover for you a few weeks after it is ordered. Since almost all covers are custom made, its is not uncommon for the Meyco dealers to ask for a deposit before making the order.
